CIS payments and final income are different

What you’re paid under CIS isn’t the same as your final income after tax.

Payment after CIS

This is your labour payment after CIS withholding, before business expenses and your final tax settlement.

Estimated final income

This accounts for allowable expenses, Income Tax and Class 4 National Insurance. CIS withheld is credited against the final bill, rather than deducted again.

Pay calculator questions

Is the calculator free?

Yes. It is currently free for eligible electrician and apprentice accounts. Sign in or create a free account to use it.

Can I compare hourly pay and salary?

Yes. Choose your pay period and enter any working hours, days or weeks needed for the comparison.

Why might it differ from my payslip?

Your pension arrangement, tax code, payroll adjustments and other deductions can affect your actual pay. The calculator uses its supported assumptions and does not reproduce individual tax codes or cumulative PAYE.

Does it support Scottish Income Tax?

Yes. Select your tax region so the estimate uses the appropriate supported Income Tax rules.

Is CIS withholding my final tax bill?

No. CIS withholding is credited against your final tax and National Insurance liability. Your final position also depends on allowable expenses and the calculator’s stated assumptions.

Can I save or track expenses?

Not currently. You can enter an expense estimate for the calculation, but this version does not save expenses or receipts.
