About Us

Flare Electrical & Solar Contractors is an established commercial electrical and renewables contractor based in Sevenoaks. We deliver fast-paced LED lighting upgrades across education, healthcare, public sector, retail and commercial environments throughout the South. Due to continued growth, we are looking for qualified electricians and experienced electrical improvers to join our LED lighting teams.

What the Working Week Looks Like:

A large proportion of our LED work is carried out in schools, so our working pattern is different from a typical construction role.

• Approximately 39 weeks of the year are predominantly evening / out-of-hours shifts.

• For much of the year, teams work 4 days per week on approximately 10.5-hour shifts, rather than 5 shorter days.

• The remainder of the year is generally daytime working, particularly during school holiday periods.

• Out-of-hours shifts are paid at time and a half, giving strong earning potential above your basic salary.

Salary & Placement:

Starting salary is based on your qualifications, practical experience, skill level and ability on site. We recruit across a range of levels, from experienced electrical improvers through to fully qualified electricians, and place each person at the level that best reflects their actual capability.

Basic salary range:

£28,000-£40,000 per year, plus enhanced shift payments where applicable.

Typical Earning Potential

Because evening / out-of-hours shifts are paid at time and a half, actual gross annual earnings can be significantly higher than the basic salary. Based on our typical LED working pattern of approximately 39 weeks of enhanced-rate evening work, indicative annual earnings could look approximately as follows:

Basic Salary

Illustrative Gross Annual Earnings

£28,000 approx. £38,000 @39 weeks 1.5 rate

£35,000 approx. £48,000 @39 weeks 1.5 rate

£40,000 approx. £55,000 @39 weeks 1.5 rate

Illustrative only: figures are based on the typical shift pattern and assume qualifying evening hours are earnings will vary with the shifts and hours worked and are not guaranteed.

There is clear opportunity to progress as your ability, productivity and responsibilities increase. Every employee will have an individual progression plan devised with them, setting out development goals and helping to ensure continual training and support are provided throughout their time with Flare.

The Role

You will work on commercial LED lighting upgrade projects, primarily within schools and public-sector environments. The work is heavily focused on second-fix installation and lighting replacement rather than first-fix construction.

• Removal and replacement of commercial light fittings

• Second-fix electrical installation work

• Minor associated cabling and containment where required

• Testing, fault finding and making good where appropriate to your level

• Working safely and productively as part of an experienced installation team

Productivity Expectations

Our LED division and safety come first, but productivity is also an important part of the role.

Once established in the role, installers are expected to be capable of completing a minimum of approximately 20 light fittings per shift, subject to fitting type, access, site conditions and any additional works required.

Who We Are Looking For

• Fully qualified electricians, or experienced electrical improvers with strong second-fix ability.

• Electrical improvers must have a minimum of 2 years of practical, on-the-tools electrical experience, predominantly within second-fix work.

• This is not a first-fix trainee or entry-level position.

• Comfortable working at height, using hand and power tools, and working to site instructions and RAMS.

• Professional, reliable and able to work effectively within a team.

• Full UK driving licence preferred / required depending on role and site allocation.

• Within reasonable commuting distance of Sevenoaks.

DBS & Site Access

Because much of our work is carried out within schools and education environments, successful applicants must be able to obtain the appropriate DBS clearance. A basic DBS may be required for initial site access, and Flare will arrange and fund an enhanced DBS for employees where required.
